Sustainable refreshment for everyone

16.01.2025 -

Since the beginning of the new year, two new table water dispensers have been providing hygienic and sustainable refreshment on campus. The devices, which dispense chilled and unchilled, sparkling and still tap water, were installed at selected locations in Building 01 and Building 40 by the Operating Technology department (K42.1) in order to offer students a modern, climate-friendly and cost-effective alternative to bottled water. The new water dispensers not only improve the quality of time spent on campus, especially during the hot summer months, but also contribute to the sustainable development of the campus. Compared to bottled water, they reduce CO₂ emissions many times over and thus support the climate-friendly orientation of our university.

After careful consideration, the two locations in buildings 01 and 40 were selected for the installation of the water dispensers. The devices are connected to water and waste water pipes and equipped with CO₂ bottles. This makes them easy to operate and maintain. Regular maintenance and replacement of the carbon dioxide cartridges is carried out by an experienced service company, ensuring smooth operation.

The necessary drinking bottles must be brought by the users themselves. The water dispensers offer a hygienic alternative to refilling bottles at washbasins in public toilets. Thanks to the choice of chilled, unchilled, still or sparkling water, healthy hydration is encouraged - a clear added value for students, staff and guests on campus.

By installing the water dispensers, the university is sending out a strong signal for sustainability and resource conservation. The model comes from Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences, which successfully introduced such devices back in 2014. Studies there showed a high level of acceptance and positive effects on drinking behavior.

The new water dispensers make the campus more modern, more sustainable and more attractive - a real added value for all visitors.
