Your Voice for Science - DFG Review Board Election
The election of members of the Review Boards of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) is a crucial part of the self-governance of science in Germany, which is why the DFG is already asking all eligible scientists to participate in the election. All eligible voters can still vote online until 20 November 2023.
All scientists who have successfully completed their oral doctoral examination in addition to a completed course of study before the first day of the election deadline (October 23, 2023, 2 p.m.) as well as professors are eligible to vote in the election of review board members. Furthermore, on the first day of the election period, the eligible candidate must be engaged in an academic research activity at an elective position that is not limited to that day.
For the Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg, the election office of the OVGU is responsible for conducting the election. A list of the scientists entitled to vote here has been compiled. All eligible voters at OVGU have been sent the election document with the access data to the online voting system via the secretariats of the institutes/faculties/clinics/areas. All eligible voters are requested to keep the voting documents safe from unauthorized access and to ensure that no one else can use the respective access data. If the ballot paper is lost, no new ballot paper can be handed out after it has been handed over.
Eligible voters can access the voting system on the DFG's election portal. The required access data can be found in the election documents. Using the access data, eligible voters can log on to the online voting system during the election period and cast their votes. They have six votes, which they can distribute freely among candidates from different review boards or subjects, whereby up to three votes can be given to one candidate. Detailed information on the election process can be found in the election documents.
Further comprehensive information on review board elections is available on the DFG's election portal. Information on the tasks as well as the current members of the review boards can be found here.
If employees entitled to vote have not received election documents despite having completed the oral doctoral examination and being engaged in scientific research, they can contact the university's election office. Contact information (in German) can be found here.
All eligible voters are cordially requested to vote and also to make those around them aware of the election. In order to provide a broad basis for the review boards, everyone is hoping for a high turnout overall, but especially for a high turnout of junior scholars with doctoral degrees.
