An annual planner for 2026 is available for download. 

The Children's University team is looking for interested individuals who would like to give a lecture at the Children's University. Children's University lectures are usually held quarterly on a Saturday from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Speakers are still needed for February/March 2026, for May 31, 2026, for the Volksstimme Pusteblume Children's Festival, and for December 2026. Holiday planning for the coming year is in full swing. To help you plan your 2026 holiday calendar through to the end of the year, here are the dates for the Christmas and New Year 2026/2027 holidays, which include three working days: From December 24, 2026, to January 3, 2027, the buildings, including the computer center and library, will be closed.

The German Research Foundation has announced which Clusters of Excellence will be funded from 2026. Unfortunately, the SmartProSys application from our university is not one of them. The Rector would like to thank everyone involved and is certain: “As Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg, we will emerge stronger from this challenging process”.tto-von-Guericke-Universität Magdeburg gestärkt hervor".

Almost three weeks after the attack on Magdeburg's Christmas market, our thoughts are still with the many injured and our sincere condolences go out to the victims and their families. Among them are numerous students and employees of the university. We assure them of our full support. We strongly condemn the political instrumentalization of the attack as well as the verbal and physical attacks and discrimination against our international students and employees.

Our corporate design (CD) is a guideline for uniform design, both for the visual appearance and for texts. In addition to the writing rules for German-language texts, translation standards for English-language fonts have now also been published to ensure a uniform appearance. Texts must always be translated into American English. The dictionary for American English by Merriam-Webster is recommended as a reference work. There are new operating rules for the vehicle fleet of the university. They regulate, among other things, the driving of company vehicles, their use, the transportation of persons in them, what to do in the event of accidents, the performance of technical inspections, the application for and return of vehicles. Our university has been accepted into the Microtec Academy. This makes it an official location of this federally funded, supra-regional and inter-company vocational training academy for micro- and nanotechnologies in Saxony-Anhalt. In future, OVGU will participate in the development of new, contemporary personnel development modules in micro- and nanotechnologies within this framework.

Eight researchers from our university were elected to the review board of the German Research Foundation (DFG) at the end of last year. For the next four years, the eight researchers will review and evaluate funding proposals in their respective subject areas and formulate recommendations for the DFG's committees. At the same time, the review board members advise the DFG on the further development and design of its funding instruments. (more in Geman)

The campus magazine uni:report has been published in printed form for the last time. The anniversary issue in the 30th year of the university's existence is all about change and new perspectives - such as the conversion of the library, our involvement in the EU GREEN university network and the implementation of our energy concept.
